MarshellSwaps Holiday Blog Hop - March 16th

This year I'm making a conscious effort to take part in blog hops and creative challenges. I find that they really make me think and I get some really good ideas from them which I can progress into new designs and working methods.

This one looked good.

"You and your partner will decide what holiday you want to create for, BUT it has to be celebrated in the months of February and March"

After a couple of emails back and forth with my partner Jen, we decided to go fora  fun holiday. "Tell a Fairy Tale Day" on February 26th.

There were so many ideas going back and forth in my head and eventually I plumped for Cinderella and bought some little silver pumpkin charms. Perfect I thought! I knew I must have some lovely gemstones rounds in my bead stash. Could I find anything. No I could not.

So I was stuck again with a deadline looming.

After getting my Rapunzel mixed up with my Rumplestiltskin, I thought about Sleeping Beauty. All those rose briars getting knotted up together. Then I remember the aluminium roses that I had sitting in my stash. but where exactly were they?

And finally the Sleeping Beauty's rose bracelet was born.

My lovely partner Jenny chose to make me a necklace based on the Princes and the Golden Ball. I remember this story from when I was little but it was called the Princess and the Frog. It's fun how the name of stories change and merge over time and areas. Look at the lovely froggie!

I think the choice of seed beads used are just inspired! The green with golden core are just perfect! I wouldn't have thought of using a colour combination to tie the piece together like that!

  1. You make some lovely pieces. The Frong Princess is one of my favourite stories after Snow White and Red Rose (not snow white and the 7 dwarfs) Sleeping beauty is up there for me in the land of Disney x

  2. I love the bracelet and it is very appropriate for Spring. Jewelry with a story to tell is always the best kind.

  3. I love my bracelet, Sarah! I've gotten many compliments on it already.

You've also challenged me with the extra beads you sent. I have to see what I can come up with. :)

    1. So glad you like it. I sent the duplicate I made to a shop I supply jewellery to and it sold within 5 minutes of being put out on the shelf. I'm just in the process of making my third :)

    2. And good luck with the beads. I think they are so pretty. I'm far to clumsy to dare wearing them, and they are far too nice to sit in my stash. They need a good home :)

  5. Oh Sarah, I am so glad you chose roses over pumpkins. Don't get me wrong, pumkins are great, but ROSES ARE PERFECT, and so is your bracelet. Thanks so much for joining us in this Holiday Celebration.

    1. *laughs* I agree. Pumpkins are nice, but Roses are a little prettier.

  6. Roses, briars, and fairy tales. This inspired piece tells a story that is relatable to the present, and it is beautiful!

  7. Sarah! I love this bracelet. I especially love mixed metal pieces but colored aluminum is a step up...gorgeous and all interwoven too. Love it!

  8. The Fairy Tale Holiday and your beautiful roses bracelet are amazing! True beauty here!

I think this is my favorite (with Dog Biscuit Day) Holiday of our hop. Very inspiring and the jewelry you two created is so pretty! Beadfreaky is one of my favorite clay artists, so I'm a little jealous of your princess-frog necklace, lol. And I'm a little jealous of the roses too, but mostly, I'm inspired :)

    Great jewelry exchange!

    Happy Hopping,
    TJ
